Mapping Workshop @ Wybourn School

On Monday several of us carried out a mapping exercise at Wybourn School. It was a great success as the children were very enthusiastic and we got some very interesting findings about their perceptions of certain spaces.

Today we took ownership of 255 Manor Oaks Road in Wybourn. A few of the team helped to give our house a new identity and to introduce our brand. The house will be utilised over the next 3 weeks to stage various 'events', hosted by ourselves and 'Encounters'.

The idea is to draw attending to the house and to make people aware that something is about to happen. During the day many people came to speak to us and find out what we were doing so word is already getting around!

Meanwhile the team has started to target different demographic groups within Wybourn, by organising a series of workshops.

Week 1

The beginnings of this Live Project I guess was like most, following the initial group bonding we start by meeting the Client. We were informed our Clients would be Encounters, Sheffield based interdisciplinary artists, and Parkway,newly appointed Social Landlords of the Wybourn Estate and Richmond Park.

So, where better to meet than the Show House in Wybourn.

A quick creative participation exercise later and we are up to speed with Phase 1 and briefing of our contribution to phase 2. After spending some time walking around the site we then met some of the team we would be working with from Parkway. So far, so good, we were off to a positive start to the Live Project...

Social Reintegration of Architecture

Participation produces differentiated and varied buildings in response to purpose.
It iniates a feedback loop between building and using, permitting a dialogue.
It regenerates building rituals which encourage the users even before completion.
Even participation in fund raising helps to make a building 'belong' to its users.
The sense of 'belonging' encourages action of care and maintenance.
